GWYRFAI LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP FINAL (played at the Oval)     28/5/09

Bethel Blues 3 v Cae Glyn United 2

A thrilling end to the season, with surely one of Gwyrfai best cup finals, the first half saw the cofi's dominate but the opening goal came with 5 minutes of the half remaining, a ball into the box not cleared by Blues defence and Cae Glyn had the half time lead. ht:0-1
Things got worse for Bethel with only 5 minutes of the second half played as a high ball into the box was not dealt with and Cae Glyn doubled their lead,5 minutes later a diagonal ball was side footed home by Gruffydd John and the game suddenly changed in Blues favour, midway thru the half a thru ball from Daniel Bell found Louis Williams who powered his way thru for a true centre forwards finish, the cofis still caused Bethel's defence problems, and only a full stretch save by Liam in Blues goal stopped them taking the lead,a short while later a collision between Liam and left back Ashley Frazer saw Ash go to hospital with a broken collar bone (get well soon mate). The winning goal came with 8 minutes left,as Gwion Williams played a ball over the top of Cae Glyn's defence for Dyfan Coles to smack it thru the keepers legs.So for the second year in a row the Bethel lads win the Double, well done boys.

SCORERS:Gruffydd John,Louis Williams & Dyfan Coles.

GWYRFAI LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP SEMI FINAL  21/5/09

Bethel Blues 5 v Llanrug Lions 0

A spirited first half performance by Llanrug restricted Blues to few clear cut chances, but a fine thru ball from Daniel Bell found Louis Williams who powered his way thru to shoot past the Lions keeper on 20 minutes.ht:1-0
The second half again saw the visitors roll up their sleeves and battle, but on the hour mark Gruffydd John smashed the ball into the top corner to break Llanrug's resistance, one way traffic now and with 20 minutes to go a long drop kick by keeper Liam Williams was collected by Daniel who lobbed the goalie to make it 3-0,5 minutes later Dan scored a carbon copy goal, the final goal came right at the end from Sam Whitmore, after fine build up play.ft:5-0
After the match Bethel were presented with The Gwyrfai League Trophy (see photos),many thanks Alwynne & Maldwyn.

SCORERS:Daniel Bell 2,Louis Williams,Gruffydd John & Sam Whitmore.

MINUTE MAID UNDER 16'S WELSH SCHOOLS CUP FINAL 9/5/09
Played at The New Saints F.C. Park Hall Stadium.

6 of the current Bethel team & several ex players were in the Ysgol Brynrefail side which defeated Barry Comprehensive 3-0 in the final, for a few of the boys it was their 3rd final in the competition in four years, a tremendous achievement, many thanks to Mr Phil Holland & Mr Gareth Davies from the boys for all their hard work, and well done Gruff,Gwi,Louis,Dan,Tom & Dyf's from Paul and Andy we are well proud !

Monday 4 May 2009 - GWYRFAI LEAGUE (Double Header)
Bethel Blues 13 - Felinheli 0

Bethel clinched the Gwyrfai League title on a wet, cold bank holiday morning and saved their biggest win of ths season to do it,a Louis Williams volley on 2 minutes opened the scoring, after good work on the left from Sion Griffiths,Sion made it 2-0 on 10 minutes with a stunning shot, the third goal was a classic move from back to front with a brilliant thru ball from Daniel Bell to Dyfan Coles who rounded the keeper to score,Daniel then helped himself to a goal with a rasping drive which gave the keeper no chance,Dyfan scored his second just before half time after a Gwion Williams shot was parried by the goalie, only for Dyfan to follow up and tap in. ht:5-0
In the first minute of the second half Sion scored no.6 after a fumble by the keeper,Adam Hughes shot thru the keepers hands for no.7,and then a Gwion shot was saved by the goalies legs, only for Alex Jones to follow up for no.8,Adam again smacked the ball thru the keepers hands, after a great crossfield ball from Daniel, for no.9,Sam Whitmore hit the ball home from a goalmouth scramble for no.10,it was Ashley Williams turn as he headed a cross from Adam home for his first goal of the season,Ash scored his second shortly after as he shot into the corner across the keeper, the final goal was scored by Gruffydd John,as he set himself up with a weaving run and shot past the keeper.ft:13-0. The trophy will be presented to the boys at the club's presentation evening at The Bedol in June.Well done lads.

SCORERS:Dyfan Coles 2,Sion Griffiths 2,Adam Hughes 2, Ashley Williams 2,Louis Williams,Daniel Bell,AlexJones,Sam                                     Whitmore & Gruffydd John.

FRIENDLY  30/4/09
Bethel Blues 4 v Llandegfan 0

Blues had played the visitors in a pre season fixture, but this was a different looking side that provided Bethel with a much sterner test, the first half was very scrappy end of season fare, with the home side missing the pace and finishing of Ryan Jones, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury (get well soon Ry),on 28 minutes a scramble on Llandegfan's goal line led to a handball, the resulting penalty was stroked home by captain Daniel Bell. ht:1-0
The second half very much followed the pattern of the first, but came to life in the last quarter of the match as Blues started to play their signature football,on 70 minutes Lewis Williams used his strength to find the space and fire a low hard shot beyond the Llandegfan keeper, with 8 minutes left a corner by Daniel was headed across and beyond the keeper by Lewis again, the goal of the match came with 5 minutes remaining as Daniel spotted the visitors keeper off his line and chipped the ball over him from the edge of the box. ft:4-0

SCORERS: Daniel Bell 2 (1 pen) & Louis Williams 2.

On Sunday 24th of May Bethel Blues will be traveling to Blackpool to compete in one of the countries top junior tournaments, which we won last year,we are currently looking for sponsors to finance a mini bus & diesel etc, sponsors are also welcome for the 2009/10 season,if you would like to be a part of one of the most successful junior clubs in Wales please contact Paul 07775731486 or Andy 01248 670897.We would also like to say a big thank you to our current sponsors,C.L.JONES,CLED & SUSAN POST BETHEL,SNOWDONIA PROMOTIONS for their constant support.

Nantlle Vale 1 v Bethel Blues 4
Bethel found it hard to find their rhythm early on with a hard uneven surface not helping, they got caught cold on 3 minutes when Vale won a free kick on the edge of the box which was smashed home to give the home side the lead,Blues battled for the equaliser, but went into the break one behind.ht:1-0

The second half started off as scrappy as the first, but Bethel were given a helping hand on 8 minutes, when a Nantlle defender turned the ball into his own net from a corner, the visitors now started to settle and play their football and were rewarded on 15 minutes when a long kick from goalie Liam was met on the volley by Daniel Bell to put Blues ahead, with the pressure on Vale a corner was handled in the box,Daniel struck the resulting penalty home to give Bethel a 3-1 lead, the final goal came with 10 minutes left,a cross from Gwion Williams was met on the half volley by Ryan Jones to make the game safe.ft:1-4

SCORERS: 1 O.G,Daniel Bell 2 & Ryan Jones.

Friday 17 April 2009 - FRIENDLY
Porthmadog Academy 2 v Bethel Blues 2
A match played on a humid spring evening saw the visitors play all the academy football in the first half, many chances were created with Adam Hughes going very close early on,beating the keeper but hitting the bar, when Port did threaten, the Bethel defence was solid, with the welcome return of Liam Williams in goal, who was in stunning form.Midway through the half Blues took a deserved lead when Gruffydd John thumped a header past the keeper from a Ryan Jones corner. ht:0-1

The second half saw Bethel continue to threaten the home sides goal, but when one attack broke down Blues defence was caught for numbers and Port equalised, now the Academy side were much more in evidence and were awarded a debateable penalty when Liam was judged to have brought down a Port forward, the penalty was put away in fine style to give the hosts the lead. The latter stages of the match became more stretched as players tired in the humidity and subs were brought on,it was one of Blues subs who snatched the leveller,a scrum for the ball on the edge of the box saw Dean Hughes lash home a low hard shot to give Bethel a share of the honours. On a night when some brilliant football was played, you would have found it very difficult to tell which was the Academy, and which the club side.ft:2-2

SCORERS:Gruffydd John & Dean Hughes.

GWYRFAI LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINAL 28/3/09
Bethel Blues 6 v Bontnewydd 1
A high wind spoilt what could have been a good contest, the home side took the lead on 20 mins when a speculative up and under from Alex Jones looped over the keeper,Bont equalised when a free kick was deflected in by Ashley Frazer for an own goal,Bethel regained the lead when a great run and cross from Ryan Jones was smacked in on the half volley by Sam Whitmore. The half ended with a bont player being asked to leave the field after a foul on Gwion Williams. ht:2-1

Blues had the lions share of the play in the second half and were rewarded when a powerful Gwion free kick was pushed out by the keeper, only for Sam to find the back of the net for his second, number four was scored by Ryan with a low hard shot accross the keeper, after a delightful thru ball from Daniel Bell,Bethel's fifth was a cracking strike from Gwion, and a wind assisted cross cum shot gave Dean Hughes his first goal of the season and Blues sixth.

SCORERS:Sam Whitmore 2,Alex Jones,Ryan Jones,Gwion Williams & Dean Hughes.

GWYRFAI LEAGUE 21/3/09
CAE GLYN UNITED 2 V BETHEL BLUES 2
A crunch match between two of the top three did not dissappoint as Cae Glyn dominated the early stages and were rewarded when Jamie McDaid found himself in space in the box to shoot into the corner, just beyond the grasp of Louis Williams, this proved to be a wake up call for the visitors who hit the woodwork twice & had several other good chances before half time. ht:1-0

The second half saw Bethel dominate the opening exchanges and they were rewarded when Gruffydd John connected sweetly from a corner to level matters, the Blues continued to threaten but without a break through, then against the run of play, the home side won a free kick on the right which was struck home over the keepers head by Tim Cavanagh,Bethel had chance after chance to level and with five minutes remaining Gwion Williams hit a free kick into the top corner to make the final score 2-2.

SCORERS: Gruffydd John & Gwion Williams.

On Tuesday 10th March, 6 of the Bethel team travelled with Ysgol Brynrefail down to Aberfan,South Wales to play Ysgol Afan Taf,in the Yr 10/11 Welsh Cup Quarter Finals, the boys won 5-0 and await the draw for the semis, well done,Daniel Bell,Louis Williams,Dyfan Coles,Gruffydd John,Gwion Williams and Tomos Emlyn.Congratulations also to Adam Hughes & Gruffydd John, who were recently selected to train with N.Wales Schoolboys.

Saturday 7/3/09 GWYRFAI LEAGUE
Penrhosgarnedd 1 - Bethel 3

The battle of the top two saw the visitors dominate the early exchanges with Ryan Jones low hard shot finding the back of the net after good work from Alex Jones, chances came and went for Bethel and it looked inevitable that Penrhos would strike back before the break, and indeed a cross from the right was converted to level the score at half time 1-1.
The second half saw Penrhos more in evidence, but the away side still playing the better football, the second goal came after Daniel Bell won the ball in midfield and fed Alex who got the ball in from the byline for Dyfan Coles to tap in.Penrhos kept on trying to find an equaliser but the away defence stood firm, some wonderful build up play saw Ryan score his second goal with a low shot across the keeper.Final score 1-3

SCORERS: Ryan Jones (2), Dyfan Coles

Saturday 28/02/09 Gwyrfai League
Bethel 3 - Nantlle Vale 0

A very even first half with the deadlock broken by a Ryan Jones from a Daniel Bell cross, the lead was kept intact with some solid keeping by stand in goalie Louis Williams.
Blues changed to a 5 in midfield in the second half which restricted Vale's chances and an early Daniel header from a Gwion Williams free kick settled the Bethel nerves, the lads now played their passing game with wingers Alex & Ryan Jones in devestating form, indeed it was a Ryan corner headed in by striker Dyfan Coles that sealed the points.
Man Of The Match: Joe Holding's dad for diving into the Menai Straits to save the match balls! Many thanks Jamie.

Bethel had 2 teams in the tournament – Bethel ‘A’ and Bethel ‘B’.
Bethel A were in group 1 and won all their 3 games beating Deiniolen, Llanberis and Llanrug ‘B’.
Bethel ‘B’ were in group 2 and played 2 games. They narrowly lost to Llanrug A by 2 goals to 1 and drew with Waunfawr.
Both teams went through from their groups where Bethel 'B' beat Deiniolen by 3 goals to o to advance to the semi-final where they played Bethel 'A'. Following a competitve encounter, Bethel 'A' emerged victorious.
In the final, Llanrug were the opponents for Bethel 'A' and following another tough game, Bethel won by 3 goals to 0.
Congratulations to both team for doing so well in the competition.
Carry on practicing over the summer and we'll see you in September.

Trefor Tournament Saturday 13/06/09

This tournament was an opportunity for the side to play against sides they hadn't come across before. The opening games were of a very high quality. The team played very well, and lost only one game against Nefyn and qualified for the semi finals in 2nd place.
Here are the results:

Bethel 5 Llanfairpwll B 0
Bethel 3 Pwllheli 0
Bethel 1 Bro Enlli 0
Bethel 0 Nefyn 1
Bethel 3 Nantlle Vale 0
Bethel 1 Llanystumdwy A 0
(Semi-final)

This was an excellent and competitive game and it took an exceptional goal from Huw to secure the win:
Bethel 1 Pwllheli A 0

(Final)
Nefyn were the opponents for the 2nd time but this time with a different result. The team played as well as I've seen them play all season against a side who were bigger physically. This was an excellent result, many congratulations to the whole squad. Callum and Huw were the scorers to secure the tournament for Bethel.
Bethel 2 Nefyn 0

Trefor Tournament Champions 2009

2009 - Bethel under 7's Felinheli Tournament Champions, and Gwyrfai Tournament Champions.

Gwyrfai League Tournament Sadwrn 30/05/09 (at Pen-y-Groes)

The teams were organised into 2 groups with the 4 best performing teams throughout the year, including Bethel, in the same group. The groups scores were as follows:

Bethel 0 Penrhos 1

Bethel 1 Segontiwm 1

Bethel 2 Llandwrog 0

Bethel 5 Waunfawr 0

Bethel 2 Cae glyn 1

Following a slow start the standard of play improved as the day progressed. The passing was excellent which created problems for the opposition. The final group game against Cae Glyn was particularly good. After conceding an early goal, the team came back strongly to win the game. Bethel won the group, with Penrhos finishing second.

In the semi final, Nantlle Vale were the opposition and the team won by 2 goals to 0. This was another excellent performance with great passing at times.

In the final, Penrhos were the opposition for the second time of the day. Bethel played much better this time, and although the game was very competitive, Bethel were victorious by 1 goal to 0, with Callum scoring the winner.

Once again, a very successful day for the team.

Cae Glyn Tournament 16/05/2009

A competitive and successful tournament once again. Bethel won their group by playing the following games:

Bethel 5 Llewod Llanrug 1
Bethel 3 Penrhosgarnedd B 0
Bethel 2 Cae Glyn B 0

In the Q/finals Bethel beat Penrhosgarnedd A 2-0, and Segontiwm Rovers 4-0 in the S-Final. Cae Glyn A were the opponents once again in the final, but unfortunately Cae Glyn were the victors by 2-1.

We must praise the team once. They played exceptionally well considering the poor weather. Who knows, without the strong wind at the start of the 2nd half of the final, the score could have been different. Special praise go to Kyle for doing so well in his first time in goal because of Gwyndaf's absence.

Well done to all the team.

Felinheli Under 7's Tournament Saturday April 25 2009

Bethel won their group by beating the following teams

Llangefni Celts by 1-0 (a difficult and competitive game)
Llanfairpwll Celts 1 by 3-1
Cae Glyn by 1-0
Penrhos by 1-0
Bontnewydd 2 by 4-0
Segontiwm by 5-0

In the semi final, Bethel beat Llanfairpwll Celts 2 by 2-0. In the final against Cae Glyn Bethel won the match and the tournament with a goal by Owain. The team played exceptionally well and passed the ball well from one end of the field to the other and fully deserved their success. Congratulations to every one of them. Each member of the squad of 10 contributed to the success of the team
